  • comedy films are produced most frequently likely because comedy is the cheapest genre to produce a film in and they usually sell well. 
  • film audiences enjoy animated films the most because they can appeal to a wide age range and they offer something for the whole family.

  • 15-24

  • quartet (comedy)

  • one direction, wreck it Ralph and despicable me. this tells us that this age group favourite genre is animation because although the one direction film is a documentary it was directed at fans of one direction and likely wasn't very educational.
14) the 3 most popular films with the 35-44 age group were frozen, the croods and jack the giant slayer. why might this be and how does this contribute to animation being the most successful genre at the box office?
  • this age group are likely taking their children to see these films, which means that the animation genre is the most successful because it attracts family audiences.
15) which 3 films were most popular with the 25-34 age group?
  • django unchained, fast and furious, rush
16) which films were most popular with middle class audiences?
  • rush and oz the great and powerful
17) look at popular films in London and Scotland. what differences are there and what conclusions can you make about the types of films they appear to prefer?
  • Scottish audiences seem to prefer films based on homegrown characters and locations like sunshine on leith and filth. whereas London audiences seem to prefer Hollywood blockbusters like django unchained and fast and furious.
18) what are two more things i found interesting?
  • actions films were the highest grossing despite only making up 6.5% of all releases.
  • the number of white cinema goers (90.6%) compared to ethnic minorities (9.4%)
